So it begins!

Remember senior year of high school waiting for your college acceptance letter, and when it came you jumped and squealed and generally acted like a puppy who's human just returned home after months of being away? I never got that excited over my acceptance letter, but I was that excited when I opened my email at 11pm on November 19. (I literally started jumping on my bed!)

As some of you know, I recently applied and was accepted to Bike & Build. Sounds cool right? It's way more awesome than you imagined. Founded in 2002, Bike & Build is an organization that organizes cross-country bike trips to raise money and awareness for the affordable housing movement. In addition to raising $4,500 and acting as advocates of affordable housing, riders stop along the route to put in some manual labor and help build homes. We team up with other wonderful organizations like Habitat For Humanity and Rebuilding Together to renovate and build homes.

The trip takes about three months over the summer, and I'm excited to say that I'll be biking from Portsmouth, NH to Vancouver, BC with an amazing group of people. I'm just starting my research and training now and decided to start a blog to keep you updated on my journey. For now, if you want more information check out this video! It's a great overview of what I'll be doing this summer and why we need to invest more energy into affordable housing. You can also check out my rider page (where you can track my ride or donate) here!

PS - That's my route across the country!
